Pattern Preferences

The time has come to get some feedback from you, the humble Tileables user. I have plenty of ideas for future packs but considering I’m doing this for you, I’d like to know what you would like to see first as an addition to the pack collection. So, have a think about what would make a nice addition to our patterns and let me know in the comments below. If you have more than one idea, I’d love to hear them all.

If you’ve ever wanted to see a certain topic/subject covered then now is your chance. If you want specific patterns of something, you’ll have to let me know.

Please pass this on to your friends/peers/colleagues too so I can better gauge the overall wishes of the community. Without the responses, it’s pretty pointless and I won’t have much in the way of ideas for the direction I take the next pack in. Thanks!

Hi Dave, I’m big fan of yours. I’m suggesting for retro patterns :) Dots and everything. Yummy!
I also suggest for you to release a freemium package, free for personal use, $5 for commercial use. Fair enough, who know that could help paying the bills.

Thanks for all your great work.

Thanks for the feedback, Felix. Retro could be a good theme. As for the premium model, that’s not something I want to do, hence the donations option and the addition of an optional download with the most recent pack. I’ll probably stick to something like that as I don’t want to charge for the packs themselves.

I was suggesting freemium, not premium. So it’s free for presonal use but not for commercial. And the freemium packages will have to start from #1 version. So the current 100% free pack won’t be intact.
But, donations is not a bad idea. I suggest to try it first.

Would be nice to have some ‘plaid’ textures that can be tiled. :)

Really excited about this site. I hope you can release some more awesome stuff soon!

I would love to see (and pay for) a “Water” pack, especially if it was something that I could use in my iOS apps and games as well as my sites.

    Dave,

I really find these packs inspiring and I’m very grateful for the work you put into them. I’ve been thinking about different kinds of sand/soil/natural rock surfaces and I wonder if there’s some ideas here.

I’ve got a few snaps from a trip to the wild west last year which might be a starting point for some ideas?

    Thanks again,

    Ryan

Thanks for the feedback, folks! I really appreciate it. It’s nice to know somebody actually reads the posts rather than just downloading everything. A ‘nature’ pack is definitely something I’ll look into. I’m nearly done with the next release so I may put together a nature one for after that.

Great stuff, Dave. Really appreciate all the work you have put into making these packs available.

I’ve been experimenting a lot with some “noise” patterns (e.g., like Dribbble). Would love to see what kinds of variations you came up with.

    Thanks again!

Sorry I am a bit late to the party… :)

But here it is: Could you please provide patterns not only in Photoshop (.pat) format but also in self-installing .mxp (Fireworks extension format)? That would be awesome!

(Note: In Fireworks, you have access to Patterns and Textures. There’s a slight difference between them, but Textures are used more often (small repeatable patterns), and they are located:
    %Program Files%\Adobe\Adobe Fireworks CS…\Configuration\Textures\ { here }
An .mxp file is simply a Fireworks extension file that may auto-extract and copy some stuff to a predefined place. For example, this set of pixel patterns by Naomi, once downloaded, installs Fireworks pixel patterns.)

Fireworks extension developer John Dunning might provide some help to you, if you decide to offer a Fireworks packs, too!

I am a big fan of your work, and many thanks for the patterns you already provided to the community! :-)

Hi Michel. Unfortunately, I don’t own Fireworks to investigate making them in this format which is why I opted to include PNG’s so Fireworks users could create what they wish with individual tiles. I would be open to working with somebody for Fireworks conversion but it would have to be somebody I know. If I release the format in the future, I’ll update the packs and let everybody know.

    Thanks for the reply, Dave!

Hope to see some packs in Fireworks format, one day! :)

“Water” also gets my vote for a future pack.

First things first: many many thanks for sharing so valuable and quality work.
Two: Noises variations have my vote, as well as water and nature. But what about some leather? Something like old books covers.

Anyway, all your work has to continue to be genuine and personal, so it’s more ideas than suggestions. Keep up! And thanks again.

Thank you very much for releasing these packs. I’m not very talented when it comes to creating designs but these have helped a lot with a couple little projects I have been trying. Awesome work!

Second the votes for nature, leather and noise – adding metal (brushed aluminum, steel, etc)

Just found your site today, and love what you’ve done. Really appreciate your work – thank you!

Rock patterns are always useful (slate, granite, etc). Also various building materials, like brick, concrete, asphalt, tile.
