When I started Tileables a while back, I didn’t have any sort of plan for how often I wanted to release updates and had no idea it would turn out as popular as it has become. Activity has been slow to say the least and I’ve nobody to blame but myself. The truth is, I can’t afford to dedicate time to it any more. It’s not that I’m too busy with client work to focus on packs, it’s quite the opposite. I don’t have enough client work to enable me to take time out for personal projects. It’s not generating an income for me and that being the case, there’s no room for it on my schedule.

My focus for now must remain on finding new clients, new projects or possibly an employed position.

So my plan for Tileables? I don’t have one yet but I will be taking a break from looking at updates for an undetermined period of time. I have also been considering passing over the reigns to somebody else with the time to spare. If I were to let it go, it would have to be to the right person. I don’t want to see it completely forgotten about or permanently shut down. If you’re interested in pursuing it for yourself, please email me at dave@enlv.in – I’m open to listening to any offers or plans you may have. I’d also be more than happy to hear about any potential projects you think I’d be a good fit for, although that’s not my intention at all with this post.

That just about wraps up all I wanted to say. I’ve enjoyed giving back to the web community and maybe one day I’ll be doing so again. As for the current site and packs, I’ll be keeping them online so you can continue to use the current packs if you wish.

The time has come to get some feedback from you, the humble Tileables user. I have plenty of ideas for future packs but considering I’m doing this for you, I’d like to know what you would like to see first as an addition to the pack collection. So, have a think about what would make a nice addition to our patterns and let me know in the comments below. If you have more than one idea, I’d love to hear them all.

If you’ve ever wanted to see a certain topic/subject covered then now is your chance. If you want specific patterns of something, you’ll have to let me know.

Please pass this on to your friends/peers/colleagues too so I can better gauge the overall wishes of the community. Without the responses, it’s pretty pointless and I won’t have much in the way of ideas for the direction I take the next pack in. Thanks!

The sixth pack has now arrived! It’s a collection of 25 geometric shapes and pixel graphics. Unlike previous packs, these work best when combined with other backgrounds. Think of the sixth pack as a supplement to all of the others – You can create a nice fabric texture from our Fabric Pack then add a subtle pixel pattern over the top for the extra touch.

There’s also an extra addon this time around. The option of purchasing the vector sources I created in order to craft these patterns. For just £3.00 GBP, you can instantly download the .CSH Custom Shape file for Photoshop and have direct access to vector artwork. The source file features 50 vector shapes – those used in creating this pack and several other useful shapes. Tweak the shapes to your liking before creating a completely unique pattern. It’s good to be back. There’s been a ‘soon’ page up for a while and I missed the SiteSprint deadline I set myself but at last, it’s done. Mostly that is. There are no doubt a few things that will come up over the next few days that I missed and I’ll be tweaking accordingly.

The existing packs have been updated to include .PNG’s for you non-Photoshop users. New packs are currently being worked on and I’ll detail those in another post. Future articles will cover things such as tutorials on using the patterns and tips for best ways of implementing them into your designs.

Design wise, I focused on keeping things simple as the site should be pretty straight forward and visitors are generally coming here for one thing. I’ve optimised the layout for your iPhone so be sure to take a look using that. There are also another couple of widths to use, depending on your screen resolution. Internet Explorer hasn’t been catered for, other than a Universal Stylesheet for 6 and earlier. Given the audience and nature of the site, I decided it wasn’t worth the extra edits and CSS.

That about wraps things up. Take a look around, download the packs if you don’t have them already and subscribe for notification of future releases.

The highly requested wood pack is now here. From laminate patterns to natural wood, there are 20 variations to choose from, each in the 500px square format. The previews are below as usual!

Time for some fabrics! Here we have 20 various patterns covering the likes of cotton, leather and denim. They are optimised for 500px squares. Check out some previews and get the pack below.

Time for some urban decay! Pack 3 is all about rust textures and corrosion. There are 20 tiles in this one, at the familiar 500px square format. Check out the previews for some detailed shots.

Pack 2 is ready and here it is! This time around, it’s 24 tiles, optimised for size increments of 500px square, which is the specs I’ll be trying to stick to from now on. There are various types of paper included, at varying levels of detail and texture. A selection of them can be seen below in the previews.

So here we have the very first pattern pack. This was a smaller pack than the more recent releases as I was still refining a process for templates and releasing. It is 12 varying single-pixel line patterns that fit best into any multiplication of 10px. The previews below show the lines on a white background, just for contrast benefits of previewing. The downloaded patterns are set to be transparent so you can easily add the lines on top of your existing backgrounds. Take a look through the preview thumbs below for a closer look at the patterns.
